Buck Moon
Welcome back to my very own blog of being a Wicca Apprentice!
Today, I have had to learn all about Full Moons. Wiccan’s believe when casting spells or setting intentions, it is best to do this when there is a full moon. A full moon indicates that the moon has carried out a full cycle and new beginning will occur.
Casting spells during the full moon is important because the moon adds extra strength to the potency of your spells. However, almost any spell can be cast – all you must do is focus on your intention!
This is a time of completion and celebration, in other words time to get rid of the old and set new intentions for the upcoming months.
When the moon is bright and full, its holds great powers. Funny I should mention full, as 13th July the moon will be known as a Buck Moon! Yep, once again I have been blown out of my mind! A BUCK MOON?? To me a moon was a moon…. Erin will not be happy that I even thought like this..
I had to research this for myself. This was originated by the Old Farmer’s Almanac (a Native American System) in 1793, when weather, seasons, and moons were monitored and named. Buck Moon got its name because it is when the deer’s antlers were fully grown and magnificent.
Anyway, back to my learning, which Erin has kindly provided me guidance on what I will need to do.
In order to prepare for my very first Full Moon ritual, I will need the following:
Full Moon Spell Kit (provided by our very own shop, Magic Touch Gothic
NI) which contains candles, incense and a Full Moon Intention spell scroll.
A journal, or my very own Book of Shadows, this is for me to write my intentions, so that I wont forget..
Full moon rituals come in a variety of different forms, and there’s no right or wrong way to utilise this period of energy.
Your full moon celebration might include spells and journaling, or simply a moment to reflect.
If you are new to the magic of the full moon, here is a really, lovely simple spell that will harness the energy of this phase of the lunar cycle for whatever purpose you wish.
Do this full moon spell at night under the light of the moon. Sit next to a window or sit outside is even better. You’ll need:
- A clear jar
- Water
- A silver coin
- A Candle
Fill the jar with water and light your candle.
Then sit under the full moon and take a few minutes to breathe the light of moon down through your body. Image the blue light shining down like a torch surrounding your body in a brilliant blue bubble.
When you feel the time is right, drop your silver coin into the water and wait for the water to settle.
Place the jar so that the reflection of the full moon in the water seems to sit right on top of the coin, (you might have to move around a bit for this).
Gazing at the reflection on the coin, speak your wish out loud three times. Keep the coin in the jar until the next morning, (or until your wish has come true!)
Focus on your intention for a few moments. Let the candle burn down, if you need to extinguish the flame you can relight the candle the following night.
Moon Water
Did you realise you can also make Moon Water?!
The ritual of making moon water under a full moon is really easy. All you need is a mason jar, (or any container with a lid) and water from your tap.
Fill your container with tap water and place it outside in the direct line of the moon light overnight. As you set it down, spend a minute or two just considering your intentions for the lunar cycle ahead.
In the morning collect the jar and use your moon water however you wish!
Some things you can do with moon water include:
- Drink it. Taking a sip or two every day, (or, if you’re having a rough time maybe down the lot?) reminding yourself of your intentions and letting the energy from the moon revitalise you.
- Cleanse your crystals with it – crystals are said to absorb all types of energy, so bathing them in your moon water should give them a refresh and help to amplify their power.
- Use it in your skincare routine – I’m not suggesting that moon water is going to cure acne any time soon but putting your moon water into a spray bottle to use as a toner each evening can be a powerful manifestation technique, and a great way to remind yourself of your intentions each day.
Hope you enjoyed this blog and you carry out your own Full Moon rituals. I can’t wait to get started, so wish me luck on my Full Moon Intention Spells.
